Jooby Remote Gas Meter Reading System for Sombor Gas: A Step Toward the Digitalization of Public Utilities

Project targets

Sombor Gas is a regional utility provider in the city of Sombor (Serbia). Before implementing Jooby’s solution, its gas metering process was carried out manually, with company staff having to visit facilities and record meter readings on site. This approach was time-consuming, prone to human error, and didn’t ensure timely data updates.

The main goal of the project was to automate the process of collecting data from gas meters. Sombor also required an increase in measurement accuracy and regular information updates without the involvement of personnel.

The Jooby solution

To achieve these goals, Jooby EPHIR RNB GMEL10 102 EU devices were used for remote gas meter reading.

Key elements of the solution:

• Remote data collection. The Jooby EPHIR RNB GMEL10 102 EU device enables automatic transmission of gas meter data to the client’s system without the need for physical access.
• Integration with the client’s internal software. Collected data is transferred directly to the existing Sombor Gas software platform, eliminating data duplication and speeding up processing.
• Testing and scaling. At the first stage, the project is being implemented in a test format — 30 Jooby EPHIR RNB GMEL10 102 EU devices have been installed. Based on successful testing results, the system is planned to expand to 5,000 gas meters over the next two years.
• Wide coverage area. The system covers both private households and apartment buildings throughout the city of Sombor.

Cooperation Outlook

The remote resource monitoring project at Sombor Gas is currently in the active testing phase. After the successful completion of the pilot stage, the system is planned to be gradually expanded across the entire city.
